Our region has been through a lot lately, with Psa hitting our kiwifruit orchards and oil spilling on our beautiful beaches after cargo ship Rena hit the Astrolabe Reef. There is hardly be a better time for a celebration to cheer us up, and February 5th is the date for it.
On Waitangi Weekend, people from all over the Bay will come together at Blake Park, Mount Maunganui for Summerfest 2012. It’ll be the perfect opportunity to enjoy hot sounds and cool vibes, and to celebrate local talents and our rich community.
Summerfest 2012 is a new initiative of Creative Tauranga and it will be one big celebration. A range of local musicians and dance crews are involved, as well as some big stars who have their roots right here in the Bay.
Two stages will be set up, and there will be non-stop music between 10.00am and 9.00pm showcasing local musicians and performing artists alongside the internationally acclaimed acts of Stan Walker and Midnight Youth.
“This will be an alcohol free family event with lots of exciting activities. Although food and beverages will be available, you are welcome to bring along a picnic basket and make a fun day of it with family and friends”, says Creative Tauranga’s Chief Executive Tracey Rudduck-Gudsell.
