Finela Moore

BIOGRAPHY

Finela Moore came from Africa, and her work is indelibly stamped with African textures, colours & zest. There is always a recognisable feel to it, and a range of meanings from the simple and banal to the lofty spiritual. In her work, the nude is always a "type" of portrait, showing something of the artist's own journey through life, and generalisable to the "everyman" of the human condition. Her abstracts usually tackle an academic endeavour, such as oppositional colours, textures and harmonies between them. Out of this flows often deeply spiritual meaning, particularly her obsessional interest in the edges of shapes showing aspects of the transition between life and death itself. Recently, Finela won a local Tauranga competition, "The Doors of Hope" and has been invited to show work on the Mazda Hilton exhition in Auckland.
