BIOGRAPHY
Richard Smith was born in Tauranga and although he has no formal art training, he has been committed to painting since his teenage years, becoming a full time artist in 2001, exhibiting in galleries throughout NZ.
Richard’s versatility leads him to depict landscape, the marine environment of wharves and vessels, and buildings of character.
He describes his style as “contemporary realism, executed with a strong depth of space and colour, form and contrast”. His aim, he says, is to create paintings that look spontaneous and convey a sense of life, covering many aspects of our land and lifestyle.
